300 Lessons

I have a large and mostly dusty stack of art books that I have accumulated over the years and most of those books have challenges, suggestions, techniques, how to's and exercises.  My intention WAS to go through them, one by one in order.  I realized there is a reason some of these are dusty. The challenge to go outdoors and paint from life is less than appealing on a 30 degree day.

I found an art lesson book called "300 Lessons in Art" by Robert Henkes copyright 1981 (for middle and high school aged kids)
Lesson #1 is to draw natural object with texture in pencil and then with felt tip pen. Frogs are pencil.  I didn't want to go over (as instructed) with felt tip pen so I did the peacock in pen instead.   I am guessing I get an "F" for not following instructions, but the texture was fun to do while watching "Back to the future 3".

Sunday Still Life

Back after getting off track.
I have a large and mostly dusty stack of art books that I have accumulated over the years and most of those books have challenges, suggestions, techniques, how to's and exercises.  My intention is to go through them, one by one in order.

Exercise 14:
Sunday Still Life

Supposed to represent your perfect Sunday routine. Since I don't have a set Sunday routine I grabbed the best things that came home with them when my boys stepped in from a shopping trip. (they routinely go grocery shopping on a Sunday).  Runner up is fresh fruit so I painted that too.

LINE, VALUE, COLOR

I have a large and mostly dusty stack of art books that I have accumulated over the years and most of those books have challenges, suggestions, techniques, how to's and exercises.  My intention is to go through them, one by one in order.

I am starting with "One Painting a Day" by Timothy Callaghan (in my case, it'll most likely be "one painting at a time", as one a day is more ambitious than this realist can imagine).  I bought this particular book last year and did the Day One painting, LINE, and then it disappeared under a stack of fiction on the nightstand.  A couple of days ago I pulled it from the bottom of the stack and painted the Day Two painting, VALUE and today (Day Three) was Color... assemble a still life with objects of the same color.  Here they are in order and I hope to have more soon!
