Gratitude and Giving Thanks!

Giving thanks for my awesome family, our health, good friends and a bunch of leftovers? Mmmm.

I'm also very happy to see the Inspire me Thursday(http://www.inspiremethursday.com/) site back up and running 'cause I think it's really cool, and there are a ton of really talented people who participate whose work I would have never seen otherwise, and last but not least, it really does INSPIRE ME!

Hope you all have a nice, filling (they don't call it stuffin' fer nuthin) Thanksgiving!

Same hat ... new medium

This is my hat for "Inspire Me Thursday". It is charcoal on bristol.
Below WAS my hat for "Inspire me Thursday" in colored pencil on a purplish paper...it was to be my entry before it became embellished with a streak of slobber and several purple scribbles....I left an unsecured purple pencil lying around, and the drawing in reach of tiny chubby hands...serves me right! The damage barely shows up in the photo but, I know it is there!
I think I like the charcoal one better anyway!

SQUARE.

The theme for "Inspire Me Thursday" this week is "square"...coincidentally, squares are all around me. The vast majority of my recent paintings, for the past couple of years, have all been square. Most of them 12x12. I really love this size and I am definitely not done with it yet. The three "squares" above are three thick frames in my dining room that normally hold three of these paintings but, I took them out last weekend to wire them up for an upcoming art fest and the sad empty frames were just sitting there. The theme this week inspired me to temporarily dec these out... even if it's just a little while, it was looking pretty sad. So, I used some scraps from some artworks that my husband, daughter and I have been working on this week (and some of my daughters plastic animals). I wonder how long until she notices and if I have to give 'em back?
I also just realized that you don't have to really wait until THURSDAY to post for IMT! I still wonder how alot of people seem to get their homework done so early!!!

ATC

I've seen some really gorgeous and extremely elaborate ATC's but, for me, one of the biggest appeals to ATC's is that no matter how hectic life becomes, I can always commit to a 2.5x3.5 inch artwork...
There! Done! Whew! (pat myself on the back) I created something this week!
Here is my non-elaborate contribution to "Inspire Me Thursday"!

More carving blocks!

I am using acrylic paint instead of stamping ink here... just to be able to play around with some colors.

These are all 'stamped', printed, what-have-you onto postcard sized scraps of various papers, soon to be mailed as friendly greetings!

I see how this can be so addictive because the combinations and possibilites are truely endless here....

The store at which I purchased these is currently out...and I was told that there are three on order. She's gonna need to order more than THREE!

My new favorite thing!

I came across a rubber carving block that I bought when we lived in Nevada...I had bought it, it promptly broke in 1/2 ,( of course I didn't toss it) ...Anyway, I ran into it again and carved it up with my lino-cut tools! OH! It cuts, as they say, "LIKE BUDDA"! I was so easy, smooth! I am hooked... I have already bought and carved another couple of pieces!

They are made by speedball (http://www.speedballart.com/) And I bought them at Michaels. here is the direct link to the product (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=fa0410)

While I am waiting....

Started a new painting... actually, this is one of three canvases on which I had put a few marks on already... a couple little washes etc... and had set aside. Now, I am out of surfaces and patiently awaiting an order from Pearl paint. Good time to do some "finish what you started" stuffs.

It's raining here today.....

Ah, Sunflower, weary of time, Who countest the steps of the sun; Seeking after that sweet golden clime, Where the traveller's journal done; Where the youth pined away with desire, And the pale virgin shrouded in snow, Arise from their graves, and aspire Where my Sunflower wishes to go!
- William Blake, The Sunflower

Next....

Hand torn rags soaked in tea... wrapped this way and that... for the mummy whose tomb will most likely end up in a plastic storage bin with the Polly Pockets under my daughter's bed.

This, yet to be named chunk o plaster, will be given the gift of eternal life by my daughter.... almost as cool as the gift of "make your own MUMMY" from Uncle Mike!

Not sure that I like the blue backgrounds as well as I liked the purple... ? I am going to finish this one with blue to add to the one below but, it may be the last blue for a while....
